The Secrets of My Spectrum

#1 UK Best Seller by Callum Knight

The Secrets of My Spectrum is a powerful and personal insight into autism—told from the inside out.

At 16 years old, Callum Knight set out to write the book he wished existed. After reading countless books and watching TV shows about autism—all written by adults looking in from the outside—he realised something important was missing: what it actually feels like to be autistic. So, he decided to explain it himself.

In this honest, often funny, and deeply moving account, Callum shares his experiences growing up on the spectrum—from being a non-speaker to finding ways to fit in, while still facing daily struggles few people see.

This isn’t a clinical explanation or a parent’s observation. It’s autism as lived by a child. Callum’s voice offers something rare: a firsthand perspective that helps readers truly understand the inner world of an autistic mind.

With space at the end of each chapter for reflection and notes, the book is also a practical tool for parents, teachers, and professionals.

Whether you're autistic, know someone who is, or simply want to understand more, The Secrets of My Spectrum breaks down stereotypes and reveals the strength in neurodiversity—with heart, clarity, and courage.

Praise for The Secrets of My Spectrum:
"I kept thinking to myself, 'This is me. I had this experience.' Brilliantly written!"
"I feel more acceptance of myself after reading this."
"Five stars aren’t enough for this book!"

New Book Review 22 April 2025
Title:  The Secrets of My Spectrum
Author Callum Knight
(A 16-Year-Old's Memoir & Guide to Understanding Autism Better)
Publishers: Frami Books 2019

"Callum was diagnosed with autism when he was 13 years old and amazingly wrote this book when he was just 16. He is a successful and talented author and has written two other children's books.

I loved reading this book and being Dyslexic I noted how easy it was to read with a larger font and good line spacing.   so crisp white pages.

Callum is very good at explaining his challenges and traits and has learned to advocate for himself through the dedicated and continued support of his mum.

I feel it is so important to support our young authors and learn from them.   llum has surprising maturity and truly inspires the reader all the way through.

Callum covers a huge amount of topics in a relatively short book and his writing style enables the reader to learn and absorb the information with great ease.

I am sure this book would be a great resource for other teens like Callum, helping them to embrace their newly diagnosed autism.

Also for parents to understand their teens and better support them in a variety of situations and apply reasonable adjustments/coping strategies.

Also, for professionals to team up and combine their expertise with Callum's considerable lived experience.

What struck me most about the book was that although I am nearly half a century older than Callum, we actually have so much in common, similar traits, interests, points of view and coping strategies.

I found myself smiling and nodding my head in agreement, and learned so much about myself.

Callum covers topics such as Travel, communication, socialisation, anxiety, special interests, unexpected Situations, education, good days and bad days, and so much more.

This book should be in every school, library, childrens hospital, diagnosis centre and therapists office, it is an insightful resource that would greatly enhance quality of support, understanding and foster greater inclusion.

Callum, you should be so proud of your work, ethos, and ability to advocate. I look forward to following your continued success and fully recommend this fantastic resource for the community.

Thank you."
