Frami Books began as a collaboration between self-published authors who wanted to share our books. After Callum Knight’s book reached #1 on Amazon, we were approached by many aspiring authors asking for help with their own publishing journeys. However, we aren’t a traditional publishing house, and we don’t have the capacity to take on projects in that way. But after much thought, we decided to set up a self-publishing service dedicated to helping authors professionally self-publish their books while retaining 100% control and profits.
We believe that every author should have the chance to publish their work. Our mission is to support you in making that happen, all while ensuring you keep full ownership of your work.
We’re also proud to be neurodivergent-friendly. We understand the unique challenges that can come with communication and the overwhelm that often accompanies big projects. If you need accommodations, we’re more than happy to work around your preferences. We get it, and we’re here for you every step of the way—whether you’re feeling stressed or unsure, know that we’ve been there too and we’ve got your back!

Self-publishing means that you, the author, are in complete control of your book. You handle the editing, cover design, formatting, and distribution, or hire professionals to assist with these steps. Unlike traditional publishing, where a publisher owns the rights and takes a share of the profits, with self-publishing, you retain full ownership and receive 100% of the earnings after platform fees.
The main difference is control and ownership. In traditional publishing, the publisher covers the costs of editing, marketing, and distribution, but in return, they own the rights to your book and take a percentage of the profits. With self-publishing, the author covers all costs, but once the book is published, they retain full rights and receive 100% of the profits. This gives authors complete control over pricing, royalties, and creative decisions.
Yes, we can publish your book, guiding you from concept to a professionally published work, ensuring it is available to bookshops and libraries. We manage the entire self-publishing process for you as a paid service, including editing, cover design, formatting, and uploading to platforms like Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, and Bookvault. You retain full control and ownership of your book, while we handle the work to ensure it meets the highest publishing standards.
1. Prepare Your Manuscript
Your book should be fully written and polished. Editing is essential, including developmental editing for structure, copy editing for grammar and style, and proofreading for final checks. Proper formatting is also required for both print (PDF) and eBook (EPUB/MOBI) versions.
2. Professional Cover Design
A high-quality, genre-appropriate cover is crucial for attracting readers. Both eBook and print formats require specific designs, including a spine and back cover for paperback or hardcover editions.
3. Obtain an ISBN
An ISBN (International Standard Book Number – it’s essential for your book's barcode) is required for print books. If you’d like us to handle this for you, we can publish your book under our imprint, Frami Press, which is more affordable than purchasing your own ISBN. Alternatively, we can purchase an ISBN for you, allowing you to use your own logo and imprint name.
4. Choose Your Publishing Platforms
Several platforms allow you to self-publish and distribute your book:
Amazon KDP – For Kindle eBooks and print-on-demand paperbacks.
IngramSpark – Ideal for wider bookstore and library distribution.
Bookvault – A UK-based print-on-demand option.
Draft2Digital or Smashwords – Distributes eBooks beyond Amazon.
5. Prepare Your Book Files
Your book must be properly formatted for both print and digital formats. This includes a print-ready PDF for physical copies and an EPUB file for eBooks. Metadata, including the title, subtitle, genre, keywords, and author bio, must also be set up correctly.
6. Pricing & Distribution Strategy
Setting the right price is key to balancing royalties and market competitiveness. Decide whether to distribute exclusively through Amazon KDP Select or go wide with multiple retailers.
7. Marketing & Promotion
To gain visibility, create an author website and establish a social media presence. Set up an Amazon Author Central and Goodreads profile. A well-planned book launch—including advance reviews, giveaways, and promotions—can boost initial sales. Paid advertising through Amazon, Facebook, or BookBub can also help reach more readers.
8. Order Proof Copies & Publish
Before release, order a proof copy to ensure quality. Make any necessary adjustments and, once everything is ready, publish your book to the world.
